The Jesus They Made is an independent historical documentary-fiction project operated from New Zealand.

2. Information we collect

We may collect:

  • your email address when you subscribe to project updates;
  • information you voluntarily provide when you contact us;
  • subscription records, including confirmation and unsubscribe status;
  • basic technical information recorded by our hosting and security systems, such as IP address, browser and device type, requested pages, and date and time of access.

We do not knowingly request sensitive personal information through this website.

3. Why we collect it

We use personal information to:

  • send episode announcements, source notes, and occasional production updates;
  • respond to enquiries;
  • operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the website;
  • prevent spam, abuse, and technical problems;
  • maintain records of consent and unsubscribe requests;
  • comply with legal obligations.

4. Newsletter subscriptions

Newsletter subscriptions are managed through Brevo. When you submit the subscription form, your email address and related subscription information are processed by Brevo on our behalf.

We use a double opt-in process. After submitting the form, you must confirm your subscription using the link sent to your email address. You are not added as a confirmed subscriber until that step is completed.

You may unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link in any newsletter email or by contacting us.

5. How information is shared

We do not sell or rent personal information.

Information may be processed by service providers that help us operate the website and mailing list, including:

  • Brevo, for newsletter subscription management and email delivery;
  • our website hosting provider;
  • technical and security providers where reasonably necessary.

Some providers may process information outside New Zealand. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to use reputable providers and appropriate contractual or privacy safeguards.

6. Cookies, embedded services, and analytics

The website may use essential technical cookies or similar technologies required for normal operation, security, and embedded services such as the Brevo subscription form.

We do not currently use behavioural advertising or advertising cookies. We also do not currently use a separate audience-analytics service. If non-essential analytics, advertising, or tracking tools are introduced, this policy and any required consent controls will be updated.

7. Storage and security

We take reasonable administrative and technical steps to protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, alteration, or disclosure.

No method of internet transmission or electronic storage is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

8. Retention

Newsletter information is retained while you remain subscribed and, where reasonably necessary, after unsubscribe to maintain suppression records, consent records, security records, or legal compliance.

Enquiries and technical logs may be retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for administration, security, dispute resolution, or legal obligations.

9. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of, or a copy of your personal information.

You may withdraw newsletter consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect processing that occurred before consent was withdrawn.

This website and newsletter are intended for a general adult audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
